My first major task this year was opening our Ziguinchor Conference remembering the 50th anniversary of the murder
of Amilcar Cabral. One of the keynote speakers, Kate Gordon, outlined many parallels in the thoughts of Rosa Luxemburg
and Cabral. One that I would add is that both strongly committed to their respective national struggles, while always
understanding them as a contribution to the struggle on the global scale and in the long term to advance humanity. I
