Adopted in Palmarin on October 31, 2025, at the conclusion of the 5th edition of the Climate School, the Saloum Delta Manifesto is a collective call for climate justice, biodiversity protection and a just transition rooted in local communities.

Bringing together young people, women, community leaders, researchers, activists and other committed individuals from Africa and beyond, the Climate School created a space for dialogue, shared learning and collective action in the Saloum Delta.

Inspired by the experiences and knowledge of local communities, the Manifesto outlines a vision for an ecology grounded in solidarity, cultural heritage and social justice. It calls for stronger community leadership, the recognition of Indigenous and local knowledge, the protection of ecosystems, sustainable food systems and inclusive climate policies.

Published by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung West Africa Regional Office, in collaboration with Écologie Universelle and the National Platform of Actors for Climate Justice (PNAJC), this declaration invites us to rethink the relationship between people and nature and to build a more just and sustainable future.

A new study exploring the early history of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development

This year marks the end of an era at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). After two consecutive terms, ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger will retire from the organization at the end of 2025. Since 2016, the former Vice-Chancellor of Austria has contributed significantly to expanding the ICMPD’s footprint in European migration policy, both in terms of mainstreaming the key concepts it advocates for, as well as accelerating its on-the-ground impact and presence across Europe, Africa, and Asia. The ICMPD has played an important role not only in integrating non-EU states on the Balkan route into the European border regime, but also states in the Mediterranean such as Tunisia, Morocco and Lebanon, and states along the so-called “New Silk Road” stretching from Eastern Europe via Central Asia to Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.
